TODAY'S GENIUS AWARD GOES TO . . . . . . .

Edward Archbold, 32, who won the grand prize at a cockroach and worms eating contest at a Florida pet store, then died. Archbold was seen stuffing handfuls of insects into his mouth with about 30 other contestants vying for the grand prize of a python at the Ben Siegel Reptile Store. Shortly after winning the title, Archbold began to regurgitate and collapsed outside the store. He died at a hospital. None of the other contestants complained of any medical issues.

AND THEN THERE'S .....

Wilbert Matheney, 48, who broke into a home while wearing a GPS tracking ankle monitor. After witness accounts and some handy police work, investigators were able to place Matheney's court-ordered ankle bracelet in the home at the time of the burglary. He's back behind bars, without a bracelet this time.

OR HOW 'BOUT .....

Carlos R. Turrelles Arias, 21, who was trying to show off for a pregnant girl, when he began randomly discharging his gun into the air. Arias got out of his car at a Louisville mall and fired off seven rounds into the air. Witnesses ran for their lives as Arias shot at them and into the air. When police arrived, he told officers it is his right to own a gun and fire it when and where he wants. Police disagreed with that, and Arias was charged with seven counts of wanton endangerment, carrying a concealed weapon, no operator's license and tampering with physical evidence. Now THAT should impress the girl!

OKAY, ONE MORE .....

Donnie McLendon, 26, who played Russian Roulette and lost. McLendon accidentally shot himself in the head with a .44-caliber handgun during a game of Russian Roulette with two other men. The men carried McLendon out of the house and drove him to the hospital, where they initially told police a gunman entered the home to rob them and fired the gun. When police investigated, they spotted a trail of blood at the home leading them inside, where they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The men recanted their story.
