The Cape Girardeau Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for mentors to help encourage and inspire kids. The group is working to match 60 kids with a mentor before the end of the year. Traditionally they serve kids 5 to 17 years old but as kids get older it’s harder to match them. A mentor is chosen based on factors including common interests, ability to participate in activities together and a desire from the mentor to help. Cape Chapter Executive Director Ashley Beggs tells KZIM-KSIM you can get a lot from the program as a volunteer. The group asks for a one year commitment. You must be 21 years old and able to pass a background check. It’s recommended you spend four to ten hours each month with your match. For more information call the Cape Chapter at 339-0184.
