This past weekend area households cleared their medicine cabinets of unused or outdated prescriptions as part of a drug take back event. In its third year of the program Cape Girardeau DEA announced they collected more than 11-hundred pounds. The medicine will be properly disposed of through the DEA to ensure safe removal. Cape Police Lieutenant Rick Price tells KZIM-KSIM they’re first year they only collected 80 pounds. They try to host this event a couple of times a year to help alleviate homes of medicine and avoid substance abuse.
