A state representative has hit the ground running in Jefferson City

Jan 31, 2014 -- 4:43pm

Kathy Swan is the District 147 Representative for Missouri. She says the session began January 8th with many political leaders ready to roll, including Swan! She says they are debating bills on internet access to academics, arguing budget priorities and even discussing if the high five should be the state greeting! Swan tells KSIM KSIM she has a pretty full plate herself…"From education to tax credits to veterans to telecom bills... I have eight so far. A couple are healthcare related and one is pro-life. And next week there are two education bills with two more about education and a business tax bill on the horizon." Swan is a former nurse and is also a business owner who understands the need for entrepreneurial education in even the early levels of school. She says the Common Core standards are not the answer, and though she doesn’t have the exact response yet, it is going to need to be looked at. She is pushing a veteran’s bill on property tax relief as suggested by a constituent and is now looking at ways to offset the cost in the budget. She welcomes your ideas. You are free to contact her office at 573-751-1443.
