37-year-old Nicholas Goetz was found guilty by a jury for child molestation in the first degree for sexually molesting an eight year old girl. The case was tried in Cape Girardeau County before Judge Ben Lewis. At the time of the incident, the victim immediately reported the abuse to her mother, who then reported it to police. At trial, the prosecutor presented the testimony of the now ten ear old victim, the victim’s mother, a child advocate and detectives. Goetz took the stand on his own behalf, and denied molesting the child. The jury deliberated for approximately 3 hours before finding Goetz guilty. Sentencing is scheduled for February 24th, and Goetz faces up to 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
