Oct 23, 2013 -- 4:01pm

A Poplar Bluff man implicated in the death of his father and severe injury of his mother was back in court on Tuesday. 27-year-old Matthew D Jenkins was arrested in January after allegedly striking his parents with a baseball bat. Jenkins, who had previously pled not guilty to the charges, appeared before Judge Fred Copeland Tuesday.  He is charged with felony first-degree assault, felony second-degree murder, and two felony counts of armed criminal action. Jenkins allegedly beat his parents in their Poplar Bluff home and told police he was gone during the attack, but then later admitted to the beating. Jenkins’s case was transferred to the New Madrid County Circuit Clerk in May. Copeland scheduled his jury trial to begin in March of 2014
