Victims of violent crime are often overlooked when the event occurs outside of regular business hours…and Union County is working to be more aggressive in expanding their services to crime victims by making them available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. County State’s Attorney Tyler Edmonds tells KZIM-KSIM that he hope this will create a better environment between officers and victims. Edmonds says that these serious violent crimes, like burglary, carjackings, and kidnappings can be stressful for the families of the victims as well, and the Victim’s Advocate Unit will consist of one full time employee and one part time employee. The VAU is funded through a grant from the Illinois Attorney General and another from the US Department of Justice Office.
