TODAY'S GENIUS AWARD GOES TO . . . . . . .
Artist Andrew Vickers, who fashioned his "Paperboy" sculpture out of old comics. Then the proprietor of a comic book shop noticed the cover of a first edition "The Avengers" on one leg, and other valuable panels that could have fetched $30,000 had they not been soaked in paste and slapped on chicken wire. "It would have been cheaper for Andrew to make this out of Italian marble," Eyre said. Unfazed, Vickers said, "I really love the idea of me creating something out of such expensive things that's worth less. I think it's brilliant."
AND THEN THERE'S ....
A Mitchell, SD, man who suffered minor injuries when he accidentally shot himself after falling asleep on his back porch while holding a loaded handgun.
The 34-year-old man was sitting on the back porch after 2 a.m. Thursday when a family member turned on the porch light and opened a door. Authorities say the man was startled by the light and noise, and unintentionally pulled the gun's trigger and shot himself in the midsection.
OR HOW 'BOUT .....
Every American who blew off a finger or two holding a lit firecracker in one hand and a beer in the other. You know who you are.
