An Illinois woman arrested Friday will be arraigned later this month on kidnapping and robbery charges, as well as aggravated unlawful restraint. 44-year-old Karen Nichols, aka Karen Casper, was arrested at her home in Anna, after a report of kidnapping of a newborn child in rural Union County. The child was found in Nichols home and taken into protective custody before being returned to his mother. According to the baby's grandfather, Travis Sheppard, his daughter and Nichols became friends through social networking, and Nichols offered to help the new mom. He says Nichols attacked his daughter with a knife, tied her up and took the baby. She is being held on $500,000 bond, and is scheduled for arraignment on July 30th before Judge Boie. The kidnapping and armed robbery charges carry a punishment of up to 30 years, and the restraint charge can carry up to 10 years.
