Saturday night, an unauthorized man entered into a dorm room at Vandiver Hall on the Southeast Missouri State campus through several unlocked doors and used a girl's shower. Campus Police say the suspect followed some residents into the hall and took the elevator up to the fourth floor. Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Director of Residence Life Dr. Bruce Skinner tells KZIM-KSIM that the campus is only as safe as the people who live and work there. Vandiver Hall Resident Advisor Jacob Haun says the students know from their first semester on campus to never leave doors propped open, leave their rooms unlocked, or allow strangers to walk in behind them. He feels the campus ranking as the safest four-year school in Missouri for three years in a row is a testament to Southeast’s security. Chief Doug Richards says charges could be pending against the man as the investigation continues.
