Learn about how to make your own maple syrup this Saturday

Feb 18, 2013 -- 6:20am

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host “Maple Sugaring” on Saturday. Visitors of all ages will enjoy learning about the history, equipment and process of making maple syrup and sugar.  Missouri Department of Conservation Naturalist Angela Pierce tells KZIM-KSIM it is easy, and that you only need a sugar maple in your back yard.  Pierce says maple sugaring has a long history in America, with earliest records of Indians using syrup for barter in the 1600s.  The event will teach the appropriate conservation practices for successful backyard sugaring. No registration is required and guests are welcome from 1-5 p.m.
