A Cape Girardeau man won $40,000 in the multistate "Mega Millions" lottery.

John Blackwell, 62, purchased his ticket Jan. 11 at Schnucks in Cape Girardeau, according to a news release.

Blackwell paid an extra dollar to add a "megaplier" number to his ticket. When his ticket matched the winning numbers the "megaplier" increased his total winnings from $10,000 to $40,000.
