21-year-old Malcolm Harris of Cape Girardeau, appeared for arraignment Monday via video conference from the Cape Girardeau County Jail, he has been held on a $100,000 cash-only bond since his arrest. Harris told Judge Gary Kamp that he intends to hire a private lawyer instead of applying for a public defender. His case is continued until Jan. 28 to give Harris time an attorney. Harris is charged with 2nd-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with a late night shooting at a local nightclub. Officers were called to 4-33 South Sprigg Street around 1 am December 16th in reference to shots fired inside the nightclub “The Spot.” When they arrived, they found a victim, 32-year-old Nicholas Gilbert of Sikeston, with gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead. According to Police, Harris shot Gilbert once in the chest after an altercation inside the club.
