Jackson Schools join veterans for a special day

Nov 12, 2012 -- 9:07am

Jackson Schools will join local veterans for a full day of activities to honor their service to our country.  Veterans Day recognition begins with a one hour tribute at 9 AM today inside the High School gymnasium.  The parade will then roll from the Jackson Frozen Foods to the courthouse to West Main then back to the high school at 4 PM.  40-year retired U-S Navy Vet Penny Kurre will lead the charge as grand marshal.  A ceremony will follow at New McKendree United Methodist Church and the ladies auxiliary will serve a meal to veterans and their families to close the day.  Jackson Legion Post 158 Americanism chairman David Ludwig tells KZIM KSIM Vets from the past 75 years will be honored.  Ludwig says they are pleased to welcome 1969 Vietnam Vet Dennis Woeltje as guest speaker at the New McKendree program.  He’s the past commander of the Cape Legion Post 63.  All events are free to attend and open to the general public.
