Heroes Way barbecue fundraiser scheduled for this weekend
Nearly 150 pork butt and shoulders are available for purchase during an upcoming fundraiser for signs honoring soldiers who died while serving overseas. The Grill Sergeants and the Christ Lutheran Church of Gordonville have teamed up for the sale scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Between 250 and 300 pork butts and shoulders already have been ordered. If you wish to pick up the food between 2 and 5 pm at the National Guard Armory in Cape Girardeau you may do so. The fundraiser is just one of many for the Heroes Way Interchange Designation Program, which provides signs near interstate interchanges that are named in honor of those who died in military service while serving in Afghanistan or Iraq after Sept. 11, 2001. The program's fee of $2,200 includes maintenance and cost of two signs placed alongside an exit near the fallen soldier's hometown. Read more in the SE Missourian
